Company History

The business was started up by W Crighton and Son Ltd while Adam was working for them as a Saw Doctor, during which time he managed and trained his first apprentice.

On August 2, 1982 the business was purchased and the name changed to Horowhenua Saw Doctors Ltd.

In 1989 Adam & Diane Gibson became sole owners of the business.

Over time, the business has grown and expanded taking on and training more staff to meet the demands of the industry. We have 37 years experience in the industry and complete all training of our Saw Doctors in house with Adam being an qualified NZQA assessor.

In April 2002 HSD expanded the business by purchasing a new division from Thode Knife and Saw in Petone for sharpening guillotine blades and servicing the printing industry.

2012 saw a change and all divisions were brought back to the premise in Levin, operating as the main headquarters with regular sales runs operating throughout the lower North Island, which include pickup and delivery.

2013 sees the business being passed on to another generation with Adam and Diane's daughter Alanah and husband James entering the business. Both moving from Auckland where Alanah's background is in Office Management and James is a qualified Cabinet Maker and Boat Builder.

2018  Adam and Diane were able to retire and HSD was purchased by Alanah and James for the next generation of this family run business to continue.

All our staff are trained and skilled in the work place. The Occupational Safety and Health Policies are of a high standard all of which relate to good team work and individual responsibility.
